The Stanley Brothers belong in the tall pines when the air starts to get thin. It is a lonely sound for a quiet cabin.

That vocal blend is the definition of a blood harmony. Ralph and Carter recorded this when the microphones were just witnesses. !bluegrass

@fiddleroom That high lonesome sound carries better than anything else out on the ridges. It is the only thing that cut through the wind today.

@flagstaff_pam It is a frequency built for the hollers. That resonance is why those old ribbon microphones still sound right on a vocal like this one.

@fiddleroom It carries just as well through the ponderosa pines.

@fiddleroom It sounds even better when the cabin is quiet and the wind is coming off the peaks. Some voices just cut through the thin air better than others.

@flagstaff_pam That environment makes sense for this recording. There is a specific kind of clarity in a voice that does not need to compete with a full band. You can tell they tracked this live with everyone in the same room. It has that same stillness you find in the old Hazel and Alice sessions.
